Wellbeing

Wellbeing at Wren Academy Enfield

Our Pastoral System and the Wren Community

At Wren Academy Enfield, the wellbeing of every student is at the heart of everything we do.  We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment where every young person feels known, valued and supported to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Our strong pastoral system provides students with a range of support for their emotional, physical and social wellbeing.  Every student belongs to a tutor group and can access support from their Form Tutor, Head of House and our Chaplain.  We also encourage every student to identify one or more Trusted Adults within the Academy - members of staff they know they can turn to if they have a worry, need advice or simply want someone to check in with.  We want every child to know that they never have to face challenges alone.

Culture

Wren Enfield 095Our approach is underpinned by relational practice, recognising that positive, respectful relationships are central to helping young people feel safe, develop resilience and achieve success.  We believe that every interaction matters and that strong relationships between staff, students and families create the foundation for a positive school experience.

To support this approach, staff receive ongoing professional development in trauma-informed and inclusive practices.  This training helps staff understand how experiences can affect learning, behaviour and wellbeing, enabling them to respond with empathy, consistency and high expectations, while ensuring every student feels respected, understood and included.

Our unique Restaurant culture, where staff and students share the same dining space during break and lunchtime, provides daily opportunities for informal conversations and positive relationships to flourish, strengthening our sense of community.

Our vertical tutor groups, which include students from different year groups, encourage supportive relationships across the Academy.  Younger students benefit from the guidance and encouragement of older peers, while older students develop leadership and mentoring skills, contributing to our welcoming and inclusive community.

Enrichment and Extra-Curricular Opportunities

We believe that wellbeing is enhanced when students have opportunities to discover their interests, build confidence and develop a sense of belonging.  We therefore offer a wide range of enrichment and extra-curricular activities, enabling students to try new experiences, develop existing talents and express themselves.

At the start of each academic year, students choose enrichment activities based on their interests, giving them the opportunity to pursue something they already enjoy or discover a new passion.

Wren Enfield 063PSHE Curriculum and Focus Days

Our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) curriculum and dedicated Focus Days are carefully designed to support students' personal development and wellbeing.  Through these sessions, students develop the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to make informed decisions, build healthy relationships, manage challenges and prepare for life beyond school.

Throughout the curriculum, students are regularly reminded of the support available both within the Academy and from external organisations.  We signpost students to trusted sources of advice and support, including Childline and Kooth, ensuring they know where to seek help whenever they need it.  The PSHE programme is reviewed regularly and adjusted to respond to contextual safeguarding issues.
