At Wren Academy Enfield, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people. We expect all staff, volunteers and visitors to share this commitment and to take appropriate action to protect children from harm.
In accordance with our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and the statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE), all staff have a responsibility to identify concerns about a child's welfare and to act on them promptly. This includes concerns that a child may be experiencing or be at risk of physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse or neglect, as well as other safeguarding issues such as child on child abuse, exploitation, domestic abuse, online harm and other forms of harm.
Where Wren Academy has reasonable cause to suspect that a child is suffering, or is likely to suffer, significant harm, we have a duty to make a referral to Children's Social Care and where appropriate, work in partnership with other agencies to safeguard and promote the child's welfare. Information will be shared with relevant professionals where this is necessary to protect a child, in accordance with statutory guidance and data protection legislation.
Where appropriate, we will discuss safeguarding concerns with parents or carers before making a referral. However, we will not do so where this could place a child at increased risk of harm, compromise a police or social care investigation, or otherwise jeopardise the child's safety or welfare.
If you have a concern about the safety or welfare of a child, please contact Wren Academy as soon as possible. You can email safeguarding@wrenacademyenfield.org, providing the name of the student involved and the nature of your concern. If your concern is urgent, please telephone the Academy immediately and ask to speak to a member of the Safeguarding Team or the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
Every Head of Year and Head of House is a member of the Safeguarding Team and can be your first point of contact. They will ensure that your concern is passed without delay to a Designated Safeguarding Lead, who will take any necessary action in accordance with the Academy's safeguarding procedures.
If your concern arises outside Academy hours or during school holidays, you should contact your local Children's Social Care service or the Police by calling 101. If you believe a child is at immediate risk of harm or is in immediate danger, call 999 immediately. Once it is safe to do so, please notify the Academy by telephoning the school and asking to speak to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or another member of the Safeguarding Team.
